Installation, Use, and Care
To Hang
- Hang on a sturdy support rated 150kg or higher (e.g., beam or tree branch) using the two supplied rope straps. Wrap each strap around the support, feed the loop through just above the knot (loop 10-15cm long—see photos). Ensure no rough or sharp edges rub the ropes—if needed, wrap rubber or heavy fabric around the support for protection. Or use two 8mm stainless steel eye bolts (not supplied)
- Thread the hand-spliced sailing rope through each strap loop. Open the hinged latch on the rope adjuster, feed a rope loop through from behind, close the latch, and pull tight to set the seat height. Test stability with an adult swinging up to 150kg total.
- Ensure enough surrounding space clear to avoid collisions with people or objects.
- Excessive friction will damage the rope and cause it to break. Use the rope straps provided and hang as shown in the photos below to minimise friction
Safe Use
- Tested to over 200kg, safe for 1 adult or child up to 150kg. Adult supervision is mandatory for kids under 12.
- Important
Proper use ensures safety. Misuse (e.g., overloading beyond safe limits, using a weak support, or hanging improperly) voids liability—see T&Cs at https://swingz.com.au/terms-and-conditions. Contact hello@swingz.com.au for questions.
Care
- Check ropes, straps, adjusters, and hanging points regularly for wear—replace if worn. Clean with mild soap and water.
- It is natural for wood to expand and shrink with the changes of temperature and moisture in the air, and when this happens fine cracks may appear at the edges of your swing. It’s more likely if the changes are sudden or extreme eg hot/cold, wet/dry. The vast majority of these won’t affect the structural integrity of the swing, they may even disappear at times, and will add to the character of the swing as it ages.
- Keeping the swing well oiled will help protect it from the elements. We have given the timber 2 coats of a 50/50 mixture of linseed oil and turps, but it should be recoated regularly with any good wood oil (eg Tung, Danish, Linseed or Decking oil) to preserve it.
- Store indoors if unused for long periods.
